Food: No-Bake Milk Tart on a Biscuit Base (Gluten-Free)

I find myself occasionally missing South Africa. I think that living in the information age helps me to feel more connected to the people I've left behind, but does little for my hankering for the little things that I miss about the place. For me, it's the beautiful mountains, the food and wine and sometimes even the penguins. When I find myself in this nostalgic mood, I often cook something that reminds me of a particular memory. For me, milk tart reminds me of our neighbours bringing over cake when they had something to celebrate, usually a religious festival. It's only now that I recognise how lucky I was to grow up in a time and place where religious tolerance was the norm.

Travel: Escaping the Crowds in the Highlands of Scotland

Living in Scotland has been a delight from the very beginning. I've lived here for over ten years now and I love that there is still so much to see and that it still has the ability to surprise me after all these years.

Food: Black Pudding, Bacon and Potato Salad with a Poached Egg and a Balsamic Vinegar Reduction

I've been battling a cold over the past few days and my appetite has been significantly diminished. This morning, however, I woke up with a craving for black pudding and salad leaves. The craving was too strong to ignore so I decided to make a black pudding salad, with some bacon lardons, avocado, baby potatoes, mixed leaves and a poached egg. To bring it all together I drizzled it with a balsamic vinegar reduction. Delicious! The weather is beautiful today, so I devoured it all while sitting outside in the spring sunshine listening to birdsong. Life feels good!

Running: Everyone Needs to Start Somewhere

I absolutely love running in Scotland in the springtime. After the darkness of the winter, I feel like I need to come out of hibernation and move. Running allows me to do that. As I've mentioned in previous posts, I stopped running nearly a year ago after a pretty sustained injury. After some physiotherapy and lots of yoga, my body feels really strong again and I thought that it was time to venture forth and attempt a proper run.

Crafts: Book Review - Cute and Easy Costumes for Kids by Emma Hardy

I've made a fair few kids' costumes now and find that the main problem that I encounter almost every time is the lack of a good pattern. My sewing skills are pretty basic, but I'm usually up for a challenge and decided to find a pattern book to try to brush up on the sewing skills that I learned in my first year of high school, forever ago.

Life: A Healthy and Happy 2015 - Update 2

The month of February was a little less healthy, due to me succumbing to my first cold of the winter season. I still managed to stick to my routines though, so here is the latest update (previous posts are here and here) of my progress towards a Healthy and Happy 2015!
